UnitedHealthcare and Youth Service America are excited to offer the UnitedHealth HEROES service-learning grants (up to $1000) in selected states to support youth-led projects that address childhood obesity. Deadline: January 15, 2009.
These grants support teachers, service-learning coordinators and students in the health professions to implement service-learning projects around childhood obesity and engage children and youth ages 5 to 25 as volunteers. We encourage semester-long projects that launch in February, and celebrate Global Youth Service Day, April 24-26, 2009. For application materials, visit www.YSA.org/awards. Questions? USAID is sponsoring a challenge to find the best in mobile innovations for good at http://www.netsquared.org/usaid. Through a NetSquared community vote, fifteen finalists will be chosen. The first place winner will receive a grant of $10,000, the two runner-ups will receive grants of $5,000 each. All three winners will have the opportunity to present their ideas to senior USAID officials, experts, and the public in Washington D.C.

Youth Service America (YSA) is uniting with Miley Cyrus and Disney to promote young people improving their communities through service and volunteering. Ten young YSA Service Stars from across the United States will represent their generation and be recognized by Miley at her Sweet 16 birthday party at Disneyland on Sunday, Oct. 5th. During the event, Disney Parks will present YSA with a gift of $1 million in Miley’s honor.
