IMMEDIATE NEED Out of the Woodwork productions, the people and the nonprofit organization that brings you the Virginia Renaissance Faire, is dedicated to the highest quality educational entertainment (edutainment if you will). The Virginia Renaissance Faire is family oriented and focused on historic accuracy and making learning a fun activity for ALL ages. We have a large stage dedicated to performances by school and student groups; drama, music, dance, history, and arts to name a few as well as anyone with a passion for a period subject that they would like to share. Our patron base both enjoys and expects a show heavy in hands on activities and educational offerings and we love to oblige them, what we are missing is you. The Education Committee needs volunteers from across Virginia and the greater DC Metro area with experience dealing with the Virginia school systems. If you are a retired teacher of any level, home school parent, private school instructor, experienced scout and youth group leader, college professor, or if you just have a love of history and/or a desire to share knowledge please join Out of the Woodwork Productions, The Virginia Renaissance Faire, and a wonderful group of people and make the Virginia Renaissance Faire an even better experience. The main focus of the Education Committee is to engage the various school systems and education providers in our educational mission. This is an excellent venue for drama groups to present period works, musical ensembles to play 16th century (and earlier) pieces, and artists to demonstrate period techniques. Additionally students and classes may wish to join our cast or staff; ROTC programs and Boy Scouts have a particular interest in joining the militia and experiencing life as a 16th century soldier. Those interested in the culinary arts might find the Noble Household a suitable place to expand their skills into Elizabethan fare. As a nonprofit with an educational focus all volunteers – cast and staff alike gain Community Service points. We welcome and are in search of hobbyists, historians and skilled artisans to provide interesting demonstration and/or lectures on our Woodland stage or hands-on activities in the Education tent or about the shire. Some examples would be Woodworkers, historic costumers, puppeteers, weavers, bow makers, milliners, etc.. To this end we need representatives to visit local craft shows, network through community and hobby groups, and visit historical reenactments to recruit these wonderful people. The time commitment is as much as you feel comfortable with. Members will be expected to meet with the coordinator at least once for an organizational get-acquainted and then most contact can be accomplished by email and phone. In person gatherings will increase as the faire opening approaches in May and members are encouraged to attend the faire and staff the education and information tents.
