Youth Leaders for Literacy Grants 2009 - Deadline November 20

Grant applications should propose youth leadership in developing and implementing a literacy project that begins on NEA's Read Across America Day, March 2, 2009, and culminates on YSA's Global Youth Service Day, April 24-26, 2009. The deadline to apply has been extended to November 20, 2008.

UnitedHealthcare and Youth Service America are excited to offer the UnitedHealth HEROES service-learning grants (up to $1000) in selected states to support youth-led projects that address childhood obesity. Deadline: January 15, 2009.

These grants support teachers, service-learning coordinators and students in the health professions to implement service-learning projects around childhood obesity and engage children and youth ages 5 to 25 as volunteers. We encourage semester-long projects that launch in February, and celebrate Global Youth Service Day, April 24-26, 2009 - Download the Semester of Service (PDF) guide for more information.

The USA branch of the Young Leaders-Sierra Leone Organization will host up to 200 young Sierra Leoneans on September 13th-14th, 2008 in Washington D.C., USA for the second annual Sierra Leone Youth Empowerment Conference (SLYEC). This year, the 2nd Annual 2008 Sierra Leone Youth Empowerment Conference – USA, will take place in conjunction with the 1st Annual Sierra Leone Youth Empowerment Conference –UK, which will take place in London, UK and the 1st Annual Sierra Leone Youth Empowerment Conference-SL, which will take place in Freetown, Sierra Leone. This will prove to be the first ever concerted effort to bring young Sierra Leoneans across the world towards a common platform to establish dialogue.
